Feist - "Cicadas and Gulls"

here's Feist playing "Cicadas and Gulls" in the street with some slow-motion breakdancers.
your day: made.

loving Feist's new album. the more i listen the more emotionally involved i get. i remember "The Bad in Each Other" being described as an earth-moving anthem in a post-Junos article and I can't agree more. the song could move a mountain, which is fitting because Feist recorded it in the mountains of California (yes, somewhere called 'Big Sur').

it's definitely a departure from her earlier work, most notably 2007's "The Reminder." some might say that's a good thing, which i tend to agree with but it's important to not that what she's crafted here is a deeper, more exploratory album.  (this brings back memories good memories of talking about the album with my friend Kyle who described it as 'searching' while I described it as 'exploratory' and how we then proceeded to debate the difference. this was on a tuesday night at 3am after partying on ossington. good times.)

either way it's undeniable this is a great album and an exciting new direction for Canadia's leading songstress.

here's her holding her junos:
